Lessons In the Waiting: Feels Like Eternity
When you think of Spring 2020 words like pandemic, quarantine, Covid 19 and toilet paper hoarding might come to mind. Yet through all the chaos and uncertainty there are many lessons to be learned in the waiting. This time is a gift from our loving God.

The end of April is approaching and so are some of the shelter in place restrictions. Many people are anxiously waiting for businesses to re-open, events to start happening again and to personally meet with friends and family members.
We are missing the personal touch of relationships. While social media is a convenient way to stay connected, nothing compares to being embraced in a bear hug and seeing your loved ones face to face. I am feeling that longing in a mighty way today.
Today is the anniversary of when my sweet Brock went to be with Jesus 21 years ago. At times it seems like yesterday and other times it feels like eternity since I’ve seen him, hugged him and kissed him.
I’m reminded of the words that Jesus spoke to Martha when her brother Lazarus died, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 10:25-26) Yes I do!
There is a part in the movie The Shack that touches my heart and makes me smile. In the movie the father is given a short glimpse of his daughter in heaven with Jesus while laughing and playing – free from the issues of this world. I’m certain that Brock is doing just that and because of God’s word I know where he is and who he is with.
Throughout the waiting that we’ve been experiencing in the last few months, we too have been given glimpses of God’s presence and hope for the days ahead. We can also know with confidence that much better awaits us in the future.
One day He will wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
Doesn’t that just make you excited and hopeful for the future! When we finally reach that place we will again say, “It feels like eternity,” but this time we won’t want it to end because we will be in the most amazing place, reunited with our loved ones and in the presence of the most amazing person, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
My Prayer
Father, I thank you for the confidence that You give me in knowing where Brock is and that I will see him again. What a gift it is to know that You have eternity waiting Your believers. Thank you for the hope that knowledge gives and the encouragement it provides to carry on in the daily struggles of this life. You are making everything new! We have so much to look forward too – eternity with You. Thank you Lord! In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
