Jesus Christ is Lord of All
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” – Matthew 16:15
At some point in our lives we have all faced discouragement and might have even questioned where God is in the midst of our suffering. Those moments place us at a crossroads of belief. Will we resign ourselves to thinking that our problems are bigger than our God or that circumstances will never change and we might as well just accept things as they are? Or do we take our stand and declare that Jesus Christ is Lord of All?
In my studies this week I came across Hebrews 10:26-31 and was stunned by what it revealed. We tend to skip scriptures we don’t understand or don’t like. Part of this passage contains a familiar section that says, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” I think most believers are familiar with that verse.
But just prior to that section the word reads, “How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?”
That verse is talking about believers who disregard the grace, love and mercy that Jesus Christ offers in exchange for believing the lies of the enemy. When we are faced with trials, suffering and temptations (which Jesus said we would face), if we listen to the enemy, surrender, become discourage and hopeless forgetting who Jesus is and what His death on the cross accomplish, we are basically trampling the Son of God underfoot and insulting the Spirit of Grace. Ouch! Not a place any believer would like to be.
But thankfully we can choose to declare The Truth over any and every situation that we will face. For example, just imagine you and Jesus standing together staring down at your circumstances. Things may look bad, feel impossible and even horrible, but He wraps His arm around your shoulder, looks deep into your eyes, then asks, “Who do you say that I am? Do you believe Me to be the Way, The Truth and The Life?
If we want to see Jesus revealed in our circumstances we need to make the heart felt confession that Jesus Christ is Lord of All. It’s in that confession of faith that we will see our circumstances through the eyes of Truth. We will be reminded that Jesus has conquered sin and death. We will know that He will never leaves us nor forsakes us. We will have the assurance that we have hope for the future and that Jesus has defeated our enemy once and for all. We will see the lies of the enemy for what they are, feeble attempts to hide the Truth. And we will refrain from trampling on the Son of God and insulting the Spirit of Grace.
Father, thank you for Your Word. The whole word! I pray that we will confess with our mouths that You are Lord and believe in our hearts that You were raised from the dead. That we will see Your truth in the midst of our circumstances and know with assurance that You are Lord of All. In Jesus’ name, amen.
