Divine Encounters

Grouchy People

Last week I was blessed to watch a testimony of a man who grew up in India and who had been searching for the Lord for many years. He shared not only how he came to know the Lord, but the changes that knowing Him has made in his life.

He works for an airline and he commented that he is often around grouchy people. Now that Jesus is in his life, he sees that as an opportunity to pray for them. He doesn’t know why they are grouchy or what might be happening in their life, but he knows that they need prayer.

After viewing his story I looked at the people I encountered throughout the rest of the day in a different light. Rather than being frustrated with a customer over additional changes to their reservation, I wondered what might be happening in their life to necessitate the cancellation and I prayed for them.

Later while trying to leave the crowded pharmacy parking lot, the frustration at being blocked in, was changed to thoughts of those waiting in the drive through. They were picking up medications for who knows what and perhaps had even received a new diagnosis. As the grouchy person in this situation, I needed prayer. Prayer to have a right heart towards others and to see the situation as nothing more than a few minutes of time that I could either remain grouchy or pray for those in line.

What a blessing it was to have this man’s testimony posted for me to read and be reminded that it’s not just about finding Jesus, it’s also about living for Him and seeing people, even grouchy people, as opportunities to pray.
