Godly Duo
When I think of harp music and the musician that is playing the harp, I get a mental picture of elegance, peace and serenity. When I think of a warrior it creates a much different scene. I picture strength, boldness, confidence and action.
A person after God’s own heart possesses the Godly duo of gentleness and strength. David possessed this Godly duo. “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.” 1 Samuel 16:18
Christ showed us how we need both characteristics working together. When you think of Jesus, He is the creator of the universe. He designed and painted all the sunrises and sunsets and gave us voices to worship. Music to move our souls, lift our spirits and hands in praise to the one who made it all. He created and possessed the quality of gentleness.
When we are gentle, we show tenderness towards others and have a willingness to offer grace and patience as we meet their needs, just like Jesus did.
Christ is also a triumphant warrior. He fought against sin and death and won. His is strong and powerful and always used that strength to serve God’s purposes. Boldly He would confront and teach knowing that His words would bring new life to those who accepted them.
I want to find and possess that balance. The balance of showing kindness and gentleness to others with a soft spirit, yet being able to stand strong when the need arises knowing with confidence that God is in complete control and stronger than any enemy we will ever face.
When the servants of Saul were looking for someone who would help the king when dark spirits came upon him, David was the man who came to mind. The Lord was with him and was placing him in the perfect place to serve a Godly purpose. I believe that God is doing the same with us.
My Prayer
Father, thank you for creating such amazing characteristics that we can develop in our lives. I want the gentleness that draws people in and gives them peace and I also want the strength to stand with boldness and confidence to share You with them. Make me a person after Your own heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
Galatians 5:22-23
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
1 Peter 3:15
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
