Expression of Grace
Have you ever needed grace in your life? I sure have. Looking back I am in awe of the many times that God has forgiven me and offered another opportunity to begin again. Thank you Lord!
Eli was priest of Israel and had two sons. His sons Hophni and Phinehas were wicked men that sinned against God. As a father he had indulged them and allowed them to continue in their evil ways.
Then came Samuel. A young three year old boy that had been an answer to prayer for Hannah. You might wonder why she would leave him with a man who had failed as a parent with his own children, but in fulfillment of her vow, she placed her child exactly where God intended.
What was God up to? Eli demonstrated God’s willingness to recommission us. No matter how badly we’ve messed up in the past, God can still use us. What an expression of grace to Eli, to give him another chance at parenting. (Beth Moore)
Eli took that second chance and the results are displayed in the life of Samuel. The bible says that Samuel grew in stature and favor. He learned to hear the voice of God and he served as a prophet of God all the days of his life.
What are we doing with the second chances that God is offering to us? His expression of grace is such a gift and one that we shouldn’t waste. He offers new beginnings and clean slates to everyone who is willing to accept them.
My Prayer
Father, thank you for Your grace in my life. You have blessed me with forgiveness and opportunities to try again and for that I am so very grateful. Help me to share that good news with others and make the most out of the grace You have so willingly given to me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
Ephesians 2:8-10
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
