Bought at a price
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Motivation is the state or condition of being motivated or having a strong reason to act or accomplish something.
Anyone who has undertaken the challenge of losing weight, dieting, exercising or simply trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, has experienced moments of seeking the right motivation. We hit walls and plateaus and need extra encouragement to scale them and continue onward. Not to mention set backs which can completely derail us and send us back to the starting line.
Mantras, like Just do it, can help restart our efforts, but God’s Word gives a powerful reason, that far outweighs any others, for why we should be properly caring for the bodies that He has given to us.
Today’s passage reminds us that we are temples of the Holy Spirit that lives within us. As believers we belong to God. We were bought at a price. And that price was the precious blood of Christ.
When we begin to think that the self control needed to make healthy choices is too hard, it’s then that we should think on the self control it took for Jesus to submit to the cross and the pain and suffering that He endured to give us life and to give it abundantly.
His love is a beautiful motivator, that should encourage us to live for Him in every way possible. That includes the way we treat our bodies, His temples. When we do, it honors Him.
