Live Boldly

You are an Evangelist

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.  But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. – 2 Timothy 4:1-5

An Evangelist is a preacher of the Gospel, someone who tells others about the Good News of Jesus Christ. So that means that ALL BELIEVERS are evangelists. That is our purpose while we are here on earth, to tell others about the amazing and incredible way that Jesus Christ changed our lives.

We get the privilege of sharing how He willingly paid the price for our sins by dying on the cross. We get to tell others of His amazing love. We get to show people the difference that a relationship with Him has made in our daily lives. We get to walk our talk.

His word tells us that we are to preach the word in and out of season, which means all the time. That preaching is not just by words, but by our actions and the way we live our daily lives. We are living in a time when, just as His word said, people will gather around teachers who say what their itching ears want to hear. People want to hear that they can live however they choose without experiencing the Godly consequences of those choices and they want believers to agree with them. God tells us to keep our heads in these and all situations, which means to remain calm, trust in Him and to stand firmly on His Word.

His word also tells us to encourage with great patience and careful instruction. I believe this is where our walk is so important. We need to remember that we too are sinners saved by grace. It is not our place to judge or we will be judged. It is our place to speak truth in love and to stand for the things of God regardless of the persecution that may result.

The call of an evangelist will not be easy, but God has not called us to something that He has not already provided all that will be needed to accomplish. His word said to endure and do the work of an evangelist. He is right there with us, providing opportunities, words, peace and confidence to finish the work He has given us to do.
