Who Was Dorcas?
Dorcas, also know by the name Tabitha, was a biblical character in the New Testament. Her story is a beautiful example of heart felt service and devotion. She was blessed to be one of five people, not counting the Lord Jesus, who was raised from the dead in the New Testament.
Her life was lived behind the scenes in practical ways for those in need. She made robes and other clothing for widows. The fact that she was known by both her Greek and Aramaic name suggests that she lived in a mixed culture and was willing to reach out to everyone around her.
She touched lives not only in her life, but also in her death. When she became sick and died the people who knew her sent for Peter and when he arrived, told him of all the acts of service she had performed and showed him the clothing she had made for them when she was still with them. Her life was a testimony of godly service.
Peter sent everyone from the room where her body had been prepared for burial and then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward her, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He helped her to her feet and then called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive. This became know all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord.
Not only did she love and serve many with her acts of kindess, but her return to life also brought many people to salvation. What a beautiful legacy.
Her story is a wonderful reminder that whatever giftings we have when used in service to others, will further God’s Kingdom.
Be Intentional about discovering your giftings and using them for God.

Messages from His Word
Romans 12:6-8
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
