Who was Deborah?
Deborah’s story is told in Judges 4-5. She was the only female judge in Israel and was a wife and prophet. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim. The Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided.
God chose her to lead His people. It was a huge task that He fully equipped her for and one in which she fully embraced as she trusted God’s leading.
As a judge of Israel she knew the law and administered it with the wisdom and discernment she received from God and as a prophet her main role was to encourage the people to obey God. She cared about the spiritual condition of those she led, not just the success of her position.
So many of her roles are the same that are required of us as Godly Women of Influence. We are called to be spiritual leaders in our roles as wives, mothers, sisters, friends and workers. These are our areas of influence and precisely where God has called us to serve.
Like Deborah, our relationship with God needs to be the center of our lives. Knowing His will, listening to His voice and obeying His leading will place us right where we need to be at the exact moment we need to be there.
Knowing and applying His word will give us the confidence and assurance that we need to be encouraged and encourage others in the battles that we face.
Deborah was a heroine who inspired the Israelites to a mighty victory over their oppressors. The same can be said of you. You are a mighty woman of God who inspires others and helps them to know that in Christ, there is victory.
