Live Boldly

Who holds the power?

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. – 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

I recently saw a short video of a warrior who was engaged in a battle on a beach. Several other soldiers were under cover of their shields as fiery arrows flew through the sky. The man looked up to the heavens, raised his arms and closed his eyes. Hundreds of arrows landed all around him, but none struck him. The video was intended to be a joke, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that we can have that same confidence when we acknowledge and truly understand who holds the power in our lives, especially when under attack by the enemy of our souls.

When things are bad in your life and you feel like you are surrounded and attacked on every side, do you know who holds the power to help and save you? The enemy wants you to think that he has all the power, but before you give him an ounce of power over you, remember that he (Satan) was created by God, therefore God always has and always will have power over him. He rebelled because he wanted what God has and he was cast out of heaven and has been waging war ever since against God’s most precious possession – His bride, the church, you.

The bible tells us that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God waiting for His enemies to be made His footstool. It also reveals the demise of our enemy the devil. Jesus has already overcome him. He has already won the battle. If we truly believe what God has told us about our enemy, then we could counter the lies of the enemy with the truth of God’s word. Then the circumstances we face – no matter how terrible – would lose their power.

The enemy would have us believe that our circumstances determine what is true, that there is no hope, that we are doomed, that it’s all too big, and he will do anything and everything to get us to doubt the saving power of God. Yes, our circumstances are real and painful, but they do not dictate the reality or the truth of who Jesus is. He is the all-powerful, all-knowing, ever present God of the Universe and through Him, we can do all things.

Father, help me to never cease seeing You as the ultimate power in my life. The one who has already overcome and defeated the enemy. Help me to take hold of Your truths when the fiery arrows are flying and to raise my arms in praise to the God who delivers and sustains me. To You be the glory Lord, forever and ever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
