Which She Did

At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did. – Acts 9:36

How significant are those last three words! Too many well-meaning people sit around and talk about charitable deeds that they never do. Sometimes they propose those works and leave it up to others to carry them out. Dorcas not only thought up ways to help the needy, but she also carried out her plans. She knew what she could do and she did it.

We may think that we are not equipped or talented to carry out works of service for others, but time and time again the bible mentions God’s reponse to people who questioned their purpose.

When Moses felt he was not the man to deliver Israel from Egyptian bondage, the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” And Moses answered, “A rod.” That rod became the symbol of delegated divine power.

Apply that same question to Dorcas, ‘What is in your hand?” “A needle,” and God used what she had in service to others for His glory. The Lord will do the same for you.

What is in your hand? What talents do you possess? Are you willing to do what needs to be done?

Be Intentional about being a woman who diligently serves others.

Praises & Prayers

Lord, I want to thank you for the many ways that You provide for us to serve others. Help us to not only be woman of words, but also of action. Give us hearts to serve with everything You have given us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Hebrews 13:16 TPT

We will show mercy to the poor and not miss an opportunity to do acts of kindness for others, for these are the true sacrifices that delight God’s heart.
