Live Boldly

What I Have, I Give to You

I want to continue with the story of the man in Acts 3:1-10 that was in yesterday’s blog because it just keeps getting better and better. After Peter had the man’s attention he said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”

I love that verse! The very thing that the man wanted or thought he wanted was the very thing that Peter did not have, silver or gold. But what Peter had was priceless. He gave the lame man power in the name of Jesus.

But………… he could not give it unless he had it in his own life. Many people want to be able to say rise up and walk without having received the power of Jesus in their own lives. (Blue Letter Bible) You can’t give away something you don’t have.

When we tell others about Christ do we have the relationship with Him that we are offering to them? When we tell them to have faith and believe, do we? When we share bible verses are they found from personal time spent reading and seeking His word?

If not, it would be like placing Monopoly money in the cup of a beggar. There is no real value in the offering. What Peter had was genuine, real and powerful. He had Jesus. In Acts 4: 13 it said that “they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” They had spent time with Jesus and it was apparent in the way they lived their lives. Regardless of their circumstances, they wanted their actions, thoughts and words to be a reflection of Jesus.

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.  We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;  persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” (2 Corinthians 4:7-10) Jesus is the treasure!

No matter what they went through, they had Jesus and that made their offer to others of knowing Him real, genuine and believable. Is our walk real, genuine and believable?

What do we have that we can give to others that will forever make a difference in their lives? Only Jesus. Silver and gold will come and go, but Jesus remains.

My prayer

Lord Jesus, You are everything to me! I never dreamed that a relationship with You could be like this. You are the treasure that I seek and I want to share You with others so that they too will know what real life with You can be like. To have unconditional love, grace and forgiveness, hope and peace. You alone Lord give all of these. Thank you for changing my life. You are My God, My Everything! In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my hope come from?
