What A Difference!
How joyful is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered! – Psalm 32:1
Last weekend my husband continued the renovation work on our home by recovering the floors. The old floors were made up of multiple types of materials that had been pieced together over the years and did not match each other. There were different colors of laminate flooring as well as mismatched broken tiles. It was functional, but a constant reminder that things were not done the way they should have been and of the abuse that had taken place by the previous tenants.
With each new piece of flooring that was installed I began to see the house transform and waited eagerly for the finished reveal. My husband teased me because he said I had a big smile on my face as I kept looked around the rooms and hallway. What a difference the new covering made! It looking like a brand new home.
It reminded me that as believers we are just like that floor. We have worn out parts, mismatched and broken parts that make up who we are. While we may still function, life is a constant reminder that in our own efforts we are not the way God intended for us to be. Thankfully God provided the perfect covering for us; the blood of Jesus.
His blood covers our sins and shortcoming and makes us new creations. What a difference it makes in our lives to be covered in His righteousness! It’s only then that we are seen the way God truly intended for us to be…..in Christ.
Just like with the flooring, our transformation takes place a piece at a time beginning with acknowledging that we need renovation, we need redemption, we need Jesus! The remnants of the old life are then replaced with the covering of the new and what a difference that makes. With Jesus, that old broken, sinful life is no more and what is left is a new, beautiful creation, filled with joy at what He has done.
Father, I want to joyfully thank you for the redemption that You have given me. My sins have been forgiven and covered by the precious blood of my Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you for Your grace and mercy and for making me new in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
