Treasure Hunting

I’m overjoyed at your word, like someone who finds great treasure. – Psalm 119:52 CEB

This week I was reminded how exciting it is to go treasure hunting. I had just finished a bible study and was praying about which new study to begin. My answer was to take some time and study the Word of God for myself. I’m so grateful for the many men and women who are obedient to research, study, and spend the time and effort to compile bible studies. They are so helpful and inspiring. But sometimes we need to dig deep for ourselves.

It’s like looking inside a treasure chest at all the incredible jewels someone else discovered. They are still amazing and brilliant, but I’m missing the thrill of discovery for myself.

I have a Life Application Study Bible that I purchased in 2020. It is still in almost new condition. That may sound good, but when I bought it, my thought was, “I want to wear this bible out!” Sure, there are some highlighted passages and notes on some pages, but it is far from being well used. As I began to thumb through the pages, I viewed several helpful sections that encourage deeper study and are filled with information for greater understanding. One of these sections was called 250 Events in the Life of Christ – A Harmony of the Gospels. What a great place to start!

Each day I get to rediscover an event for myself. I begin by praying for understanding and God’s leading. I then read each of the gospel passages that correspond with the event, followed by reading through the study notes. It’s amazing! It makes the events come to life in vivid color, and that’s not just the highlighters that I’m using. I imagine being right there watching the stories unfold and seeing Jesus in action. Because it is a Life Application version, it always shows me how the teaching applies to my own life and challenges me to dig deeper into my own relationship with Christ.

I am always rewarded by the joy of being in His Word, but God also gives me my own precious jewels of insight and understanding that leave me in awe of Him. My own priceless nuggets of truth. I will be sharing these little nuggets in upcoming posts. I’m excited to share what I’m learning and hope that it encourages you to get out there and dig deep into God’s Word for yourself.

Fill my cup, Lord
