The Prodigal Has Returned

Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

Years ago my oldest son walked away from his faith. It was heart-wrenching to see and I spent many hours crying out to God in prayer. God responded to those prayers by telling me to study the story of the prodigal son where I received clear direction to keep praying, watching, and loving unconditionally. I was also given a mental picture to hold on to, a picture of my son returning with his wife and daughters. God reassured me that salvation would come from this situation.

On Palm Sunday my son and his two daughters attended church with me. Towards the end of the service my son and I shared communion. My heart was so full of praise to God and His faithfulness. After the service my son and I tried to remember the last time we had participated in communion together and it was over 12 years earlier.

His daughters are participating in the Easter service by sharing cardboard testimonies. They said they have told their mother all about it and asked her to come and see. I asked my son about participating and he said he plans on sitting with his wife so that she won’t feel all alone and watching their daughters, but he knew that his sign would read, The Prodigal has returned.

Thank you, Lord. My heart is overflowing with gratitude, love, and hope. I know that You are faithful and that one day, my daughter-in-law will come to know You as well.
