The Nativity
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” – Luke 2:8-12
One of my favorite holiday decorations are nativity scenes, they seem to have the power to bring us back to the true meaning of Christmas. I once was invited into the home of an elderly woman who lived next door. She had collected hundreds of nativity sets over the years and invited me in to see her incredible display. Every nook and cranny of her home was filled with nativity sets from all around the world.
Little animal nativities, Eskimos, cowboys, traditional and Precious Moments, and many others filled her room, each with its own unique size and personal touch. It was a beautiful reminder that Jesus came for everyone, everywhere.
That moment in time changed everything. It made eternity with God possible. It gave us hope and brought us peace. It was a reminder that the God of the Universe has a plan and purpose for each and every one of us. It was the greatest display of love ever given. A Savior.
