The Good and The Bad
We take the good days from God—why not also the bad days? – Job 2:10
What a beautiful morning! The sun is shining. The birds are singing and the weekend is here. It is definintely the opposite of last weekend when it rained all day, everyday.
Like many people, we had plans to be outside for the Memorial Day weekend, but the rain and cold prevented those plans from happening. It was frustrating because I was looking forward to being outdoors, but it turned into a beautiful reminder from God.
Many times in life we will be met with disappointment, hurts and heartaches. We will also have many days of joy, excitement and fulfillment. It’s easy to take the good days for granted and when a bad days show up, it’s easy to complain.
The weather is a minimal issue compared to a bad health report, the death of a loved one and financial or marital trouble. These moments are opportunities to be still and trust God. He is fully aware and in control of every situation.
Today’s passage was a statement made by Job. He had lost everything. His children, lifestock, servants and his health. He had seen many good days prior to these tragic events, but as he was living in the very bad days his response was, “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised. (Job 1:21) ” We take the good days from God—why not also the bad days?” Not once through all this did Job sin. He said nothing against God. He finished by saying, “I know that my redeemer lives.” (Job 19:25)
What an incredible example of faithfulness to God. Job’s story is a timely reminder that God is always present and no matter what trials and storms He allows in our lives, He is still God – Worthy of praise and He is our Redeemer. Knowing and believing this will give us peace in both the good and bad days.
