The Godly Character of Patience
I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and the mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him.
Psalm 40:1-3
Waiting is difficult and it seems that every day we are faced with situations that require patience. It is a fruit of the Spirit that reminds us how they are all intertwined and blended together to refine our character.
When you are waiting for answers, in traffic, for a slow internet connection or anything else that requires patience, does your attitude reflect the fruit of the Spirit? Are you displaying love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self -control?
In the parable of the ten virgins, the wise girls were the ones whose lamps were full. They were prepared to withstand the waiting because they had taken the time to store up what would be needed. The moments that require us to exercise patience are opportunities from God to store up the character that is needed as we wait for His Glorious return.
In the waiting the Lord hears our cries and lifts us out of the slimy pit of impatience. He gives us the opportunity to stand on gifts of the Spirit which will change our tune from one of complaining to one of praising.
Our Godly response opens the door to witness to others who will see in us the difference that knowing and following Jesus can make in the lives of those who believe in Him.
Patience is a virtue that is displayed in the life of a Daughter of The King.
