The Godly Character of Love
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
We’ve all heard the words, “All you need is love,” and that is the plain and simple truth as long as you know who love is. That’s right, who. The bible tells us that God is love. When you read the verse above, every time the word love is mentioned, it is describing God’s character. With that understanding, it makes perfect sense why He is all we’ll ever need.
Jesus made it possible for us to truly know what love is and to be able to love others, when He made the ultimate sacrifice by giving His life for ours on the cross. His death and resurrection bridged the gap that sin has caused and made a way for our relationship with God to be restored.
The more we grow in our relationship with God the more we come to understand His unending and unconditional love for us. It’s in our personal relationship with Christ that we begin to develop the godly character of love and the fruit of that love begins to be displayed in our lives towards others.
How well are you doing in developing the godly character of love? Insert your name every time love is mentioned in the verse below, then ask yourself if that is true of your character.
