Follow Him – That’s my purpose
I was watching a commercial about St. Jude’s Hospital the other night and several cute little cancer patients were speaking out against that terrible disease. Each little person pulled on my heart strings. One mother was crying and said she wonders if her child will make it. My heart was breaking for her, I’ve been there and felt that. My heart goes out to each of them and the road ahead for them. Regardless of the outcome it’s a hard road.
Later that night while relaxing in a hot bubble bath the question came to mind, “Do you have the same heart towards the lost?” Does the thought of their condition bring me to tears? Do I think of the road ahead of them without hope, without a cure for their troubles because they don’t know Jesus? Does my heart break for them? It should because their condition could be eternal.
How do I help? The answer came in my morning devotional, “Unglued,” by Lysa Terkeurst. “I can help a soul find an authentic honest way to connect with God. How? By following Jesus. Really follow. Follow hard. Follow passionately. Follow fully. Follow with an engaged mind, willing heart, open hands and ready feet. That’s the secret of deep connection with God.” “If we want to know God, we have to follow Him. Follow His instructions. Follow His heart. Follow His example.”
In my Sunshine Prophesy, He said, “so do not try to think ahead of Me, but only walk in My ways and My purposes, and I will reveal My plans step by step.” I looked up the definition of follow: to go or come after; to engage in as a way of life; pursue; obey; to follow an example set. Putting that all together it would be:
Launa, go to Jesus, come after Him walking in His ways and His purposes. Engage (pledge or connect with) Him as a way of life. Pursue Him. Obey Him. Follow the example He set and He will guide you step by step.
I need to introduce Jesus to them! He is the cure, the real hope, the security, the way , the truth and the life. Help others connect with God, then they can build their own personal and beautiful relationship with Him. Not debating doctrine with them, but being a living testimony of hope, peace, comfort, joy and freedom that cannot be denied. Let them see Jesus in me.
This summer I was blessed to have my granddaughters for the weekend at our summer get-a-way home. I enjoy my quite time by the river and thought they might be interested so I bought them their own bibles, coloring books, note pads and tissues. I had their bible bags all ready in the camper. The first day they slept in and when they woke up they asked grandpa where I was. He said I was outside doing by bible study. They wanted to join me. The next day we shared that time together. My oldest granddaughter commented that she really liked doing bible studies. She enjoyed the stories that we read. The youngest listened but was very fascinated that she had her own tissues and could use as many as she wanted. I pray they will always have a heart for God’s word and will see how it can guide them and encourage them.
My prayer
Micah 7:7 – But as for me, I will look to the Lord;
I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me
Father help be to be a godly example to them. I pray they will come to know you and have their own relationships with you. Little eyes are watching me and I pray I will lead them to you.
Where does my help come from?
John 14:6
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Matthew 4:19
“And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
