Summoned You By Name

Have you ever received a call for jury duty in the form of a jury summons? What was your response?

A summons means that you have been called upon for a specific action. It is also described as being an order for someone to appear or come to a specific place.

When Esther and the other girls in the haram were finished with their year of beauty treatments they would wait for their turn to meet the king. Afterwards each girl would return to another part of the harem and would not see the king again unless he summoned her by name.

Unfortunately the Persian king’s intentions were purely selfish. He only wanted what would please him and had no thought to how each of the girls would feel when they were never summoned again. Their dreams of having a family of their own would be shattered and no doubt they would feel used and discarded. Thankfully we serve a loving God that would never use or abuse us.

We have each received a royal summons that reads, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” Doesn’t that summons just make your heart smile and fill you will peace and joy!

Unlike the dread that a jury summons often invokes, God’s summons is one that we should be excited to receive and respond to. Yes His call will involve transformation in our lives as well as challenges, victories and defeats. But through it all we will forever be known as His. His redeemed child. His beloved. His daughter.

Respond to God’s summons and live the life He intended for you.
