Spiritual Check-Up
2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
Do you remember the time or the place when you accepted Christ and invited Him into your life? Some people are coverted suddenly, others come gradually; some come publicly and others privately; some come with great emotion and other without much.
Regardless of how, when and where it took place, the important thing is that you are able to say that you know without a doubt that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior of your life and that you have committed to living in relationship with Him.
In 2 Corinthians 13:5, the apostle Paul urges us to give ourselves spiritual checkups. We should look for a growing awareness of Christ’s presence and power in our lives. If we are not actively seeking to grow closer to God, we are drawing further away from Him.
That same verse is cross referenced with 1 Corinthians 11:28-29 (MSG) which reads, “Anyone who eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Master irreverently is like part of the crowd that jeered and spit on him at his death. Is that the kind of “remembrance” you want to be part of? Examine your motives, test your heart, come to this meal in holy awe.”
We get checkups to monitor our progress, catch problems before they become too big and to make sure we are staying on track. Spritual checkups are just as necessary as physical ones.
Like Lydia, has the Lord opened up your heart and entered in? Have you been receptive to His leading and do you continue to grow in your relationship with Him?
Today might just be the perfect day to get a spiritual checkup.
Be Intentional about growing in your relationship with Christ.
Praises & Prayers
Father, thank you for the reminder that spiritual checkups are just as important and physical ones. Please guide me to course change anything that is not of You and where You’re leading. I want to know You more. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Messages from His Word
Philippians 3:10-11
I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
