Live Boldly

Somewhere

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.: – John 14:6

I am reading a book called What if it’s true? which is challenging me dive deeper into God’s word and into my own understanding of who Jesus is. That’s right in the direction of where I believe God is asking me to go with Him this season of my life – deeper, beyond my safe and known surface belief to a more intimate, treasured and passionate life with Him.

The author commented that if Jesus is the way, then He’s taking us somewhere. But where? That destination is revealed in the same passage of scripture, to the Father. If we truly understand who Jesus was and is, that He descended from Heaven, setting aside His heavenly throne, to come to earth and save us, then ascended back to His heavenly throne to intercede for us, would that change how we live? Would that change our level of commitment and passion for Him?

Think about the disciples that followed Jesus during His earthly ministry. They were unschooled ordinary people who came to know Jesus in this way – to know Him as the only Way. In their devotion, many died as martyrs because they knew, loved and served the resurrected King of the Universe. They knew where their obedience would lead them, not just to pain and suffering, which they felt honored to endure for the sake of Christ, but ultimately it would lead them to the throne of God where they would hear, “Well done my good and faithful servant. Come and share in your masters happiness.”

Do you know Jesus in this way? Do you trust His leading in your life even when the path brings pain and suffering? Do you believe that His ultimate plans for you are good and that His way leads to eternal life with the Father?

Lord Jesus, I thank you for revealing who You are and for Your sacrificial love for us. Help us to understand the bigger picture and live lives that focus on our eternal destination. Thank you for making a way. Thank you for being The Way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
