Send Word
How fortunate we are to live in a time when we can communicate a need in a matter of moments. Texting, social media and cell phones are all very useful to send the word out that help is needed. The responses can also be instantaneous and bring encouragment and hope in a few seconds.
Our story of Mary and Martha continues with dire news.
Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) 3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.”
Sending word in biblical times took quite a bit longer then it does now which would only add to the worry and concern over the situation. They were relying on a messenger to get the word to Jesus and then waiting for His response.
Thankfully because of the cross, we have direct access to Christ and can send word to Him anywhere and anytime. We may still have to wait for His perfect timing for the answer, but in the meantime we can know with certainty that He knows. He has heard our petition and He will respond in the most perfect way. By sending word to God in prayer, we can experience His peace in the waiting.
Be Intentional about “sending word” to God first.
Praises & Prayers
Father, thank you for always being available to hear our petitions. Help us to pray with purpose and intention and trust that You will respond according to Your good and perfect will. Surround us with your peace as we wait in expectation of what You will do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Messages from His Word
Philippians 4:6-8
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
