Self-Evaluation
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. Romans 12:3
In my line of work I speak with several different Travel Vendors every day. At the end of the conversations the representatives always mention that there is a survey after the call to evaluate their service. The surveys are intended to show where employees are excelling or where they may need some improvement.
Today’s passage is a reminder that we too should make an honest evaluation of ourselves, not only to see the good things, but to become aware of the things that may need adjusting in our lives. If you wonder where to start, a good place is by following the leading of the psalmist who wrote, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139 :23-24
It’s a daring prayer to pray, because God will always give honest and accurate feedback. His desire is that we will become the refined Daughter’s of King that He has called us to be.
I prayed this prayer and God was ready with a response. With a notebook in hand, I recorded the areas of my life that needed some work. The list was longer that I originally thought, because I was thinking too highly of myself. But God’s heart was that I would see His response as loving correction and take the review to heart, making the adjustments that needed to be made.
I’m grateful for the humbling that this self-evaluation brought. I’m grateful for a loving Father that desires only the best for me even when that best requires course correction. It was a beautiful reminder that He is ever present and involved in my life. I want to do better for Him. Thank you Lord for Your leading.
