Seeing the joy in others

I am a sun lover and prefer warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine so finding joy in cold wintry days has always been a challenge for me. When I saw the forecast for a week filled with new snow I decided to buy a snow day kit to play with my granddaughters and try to make the best of winter.

The kit had plier like tools that would help the girls make snowballs, snowmen, along with bricks and penguins. On Christmas day my youngest granddaughter and I spent hours outside making a snow palace. Often I would look at her cute little face as she worked tirelessly on her creation. She would smile and giggle as she simply enjoyed being outside playing.

At home I shovel snow in the morning so the dogs have a path to the yard. Roscoe loves the snow and often jumps in the air to catch the falling snowflakes. He will also bite at the snow in the shovel as he playfully tries to stop my work. It makes shoveling snow fun as I watch the joy the snow gives him.

While it’s not likely that I will ever be a snow enthusiast, I’m learning the I can enjoy it by seeing seeing the joy it gives others. I wouldn’t trade that day in the snow with my granddaughter for anything and I’m sure I’ll have many more playful mornings with Roscoe.

Thank you Lord for the joy that snow gives to others and to me through them.
