Security System

Last summer we had a home security system installed. It took learning a new phone app and some tutorials on how to operate the home screen, but it works great. The system warns if there is fire or water problems, intruders, doors left open and even has a microphone and video recording.

The system is armed for two different scenarios, staying or leaving (coming or going). There is a key phrase that has to be said in order to clear the alarm and an access code to open and close doors.

At first it seemed a bit overwhelming and I set the alarm off a few times when I forgot to disarm it before taking the dog out. But it really does give me peace of mind when I’m home and when I’m away.

As I thought about this security system it made me think about God’s security system. There are so many similarities.

  1. We choose to install (accept) His security system (salvation) in our lives
  2. The app is the Bible and there are many tutorials we learn from
  3. God warns us of dangers, intruders (the enemy) and if we are leaving ourselves open for attack
  4. We can talk to God at anytime
  5. God sees everything
  6. His security is available whether we are coming or going
  7. Our key phrase to reset is “Please forgive me Lord”
  8. Our access code is prayer

Life can sometimes be overwhelming and at times we will mess up, but knowing that we have security in Christ will give us peace of mind. He is always watching over us and has promised to never leave us, nor forsake us. That’s a better guarantee than any earthly security system.

My prayer

Father, I’m so blessed that You watch over me. You offer security that surpasses anything this world has to offer. You know when I’m coming or going and You are my refuge and strong tower. Thank you for giving me peace of mind. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Where does my help come from?

Genesis 16:13

“You are the God who sees me.”

Psalm 139: 1-6 The Message

“God, investigate my life;
    get all the facts firsthand.
I’m an open book to you;
    even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking.
You know when I leave and when I get back;
    I’m never out of your sight.
You know everything I’m going to say
    before I start the first sentence.
I look behind me and you’re there,
    then up ahead and you’re there, too—
    your reassuring presence, coming and going.
This is too much, too wonderful—
    I can’t take it all in!”

Psalm 61:3 AMP

“For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me,
A strong tower against the enemy.”
