Sands of Promise

One of my favorite things about getting away is the extra time in the day to just be still and reconnect with God. I like to get up early and go for walks on the beach and then find a secluded place to sit and have my quiet time with Him.

As I sat and listened to the rhythm of the waves I noticed that I was slowly drifting into a beautiful place of peace and reflection. I watched as the sun rose above the horizon and listened as seagulls squawked each time the waves touched their feet.

While sitting in the beach I buried my feet in the sand and began to run my fingers through it while seeing just how tiny each grain of sand was and how many were in one handful.

I could hear the words, “as numerous as the sands of the sea,” in my mind and seeing how many grains of sand that were on my feet let alone the whole shoreline, made me smile in awe at how faithful God is and how much He loves us and thinks about us.

I watched as the footprints that I made in the sand were visible one moment and then swept away by a wave the next. The bible verse that I was reading at the time was Psalm 39:4-7 that read, “let me know how fleeting my life is. Each man’s life is but a breath.” Selah

Selah means to pause and reflect on what has just been said. As I again looked at the sand and watched the waves I reflected on how God fulfills every one of His promises. We don’t know how many days we have. We are here one day and can be gone the next. Only God knows.

But what we do know is that He is faithful. We have our own sands of promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us. The waves will come and go but God remains.

My Prayer

Father, I thank you for quiet time with You. Time to reconnect and take in the words of promise that Your word gives to us. Help me to remember that each day I can choose to have that quiet time with you no matter where I am. You make each day better and I choose to invite You in and see where You will lead. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

Psalm 139:18

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
    They cannot be numbered!
 I can’t even count them;
    they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
    you are still with me!
