Salt and Light
You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. – Matthew 5:13,14
When Jesus told His disciples that they were to be salt and light He was giving them references that could be easily understood. Salt is a source of flavor that can also cause thirst. Just as salt seasons and changes the flavor of food, a disciple of Christ should be an agent of change to help bring people into a right relationship with God.
Likewise, a taste of salt will cause thirst. When we live as obedient followers of Christ, the way we speak and act has the power to draw thirsty people into a real and personal relationship with Him.
We live in a dark world that desperately needs Jesus. When we live radically different from the world, the light of Christ will shine and others will take notice. Like Jesus said, “A city on a hill cannot be hidden.”
We are called to be a light and to bear witness to the wonderful things God has done and will do. Men and women who have lived wisely and well will shine brilliantly, like the cloudless, star-strewn night skies. And those who put others on the right path to life will glow like stars forever. (Daniel 12:3 MSG)
Jesus not only told us of the many hardships we would face along the way, but He also told us of all the blessings that will follow. In God’s timing, this life is but a moment and we have the choice of whether or not we will live it for Him.
What a privilege we have as Daughters of The King to live our lives for Christ. We have been called and chosen by God to follow Him and we have been gifted, taught and empowered to fulfill our purpose of being salt and light to the world.
