Restore My Soul – Today’s Thorn
Today my heart and mind are dealing with a recurring issue that has plagued our family for many years. I have often wondered by God has not removed the issue because I believe that it would be better for all involved if He did.
It has been the source of much frustration and has revealed things like pride, judgement and outright rebellion in our hearts. So why wouldn’t God want to remove it?
God’s message to me today: My Grace Is Sufficient
I was reading a book called Gracelaced today and read the following:
“Look past the thorn to how Christ is enough in the midst of it. His grace is sufficient for the thorn He chooses not to remove. Today’s thorn stands guard over tomorrow’s rose. Christ’s sufficient grace – in our unremoved pain – is the rose we long to behold, just beyond the thorn.”
This message was amplified as I was looking at the roses in my yard. When I look at them it’s the beautiful roses that I see – not the thorns. The thorns serve a purpose. They guard the roses and in their own way make the roses a greater treasure.
There are lessons to be learned from the thorns in our lives and just as the apostle Paul learned after asking three times for his thorn to be removed from his life, God’s grace is sufficient. It creates a righteous dependence on God.
Christ is the rose in the midst of the thorns of life. He is always present and He is more than enough.
My Prayer
Father, thank you for this timely reminder that You are more than enough. Yes I want the thorns removed, but You have a purpose for each and every one of them. Please help me to remember that Your grace is sufficient and I can trust in Your will and Your Way – Always. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
