Restore My Soul – Nothing Can Separate

Yesterday I ate a bowl of ice cream. That may seem like nothing, but the entire experience was a battle in my mind. At first I justified it by not eating as much as I would like to and that I didn’t have a big lunch.

The sad thing was that it didn’t even taste good because of all the guilt running through my mind. I had restarted my fitness goals only a week earlier and here I was blowing it already.

I felt like I was letting myself and God down because I had asked for His help to refocus and follow through. It was as if that one bowl of ice cream hand erased everything I had done right the previous week.

Then I read Romans 8:37-39 in my daily devotional:

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I had to ask myself, “Am I convinced?” Do I believe that God’s love is unconditional and unending?

God’s message to me today: Nothing can separate you from my love

“I long to make your life a glorious adventure, but you must stop clinging to old ways! I Am doing something new within My Beloved Ones. Be on the lookout for all that I have prepared for you.”

I was deep in my old mindset – believing that a bowl of ice cream could separate me from God’s love. That may sound silly but think about the things we do that we believe makes God angry and that we believe disappoints Him and then determine that we have lost His love.

That may be true of human nature but it is never the case with God. The truth is that He loves us no matter what. The enemy will use condemnation and discouragement to make us think that God’s love can be rescinded. But over and over again in the bible we are told that God’s love is unconditional and God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

So in answer to my question, I am convinced that nothing, not even a bowl of ice cream will separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus my Lord.

My Prayer

Father, I thank you for the reminder that Your love is eternal. There have been many times that I’ve believed the lies of the enemy that I have lost Your love, but Lord I know that is impossible. Thank you for Your words of truth and I pray that I will not be shaken again by something as simple as a bowl of ice cream. In Jesus’ name, amen.
