Restore My Soul – Master Your Time
Growing up we had a list of chores that were to be completed before we could have free time and the expectation was that you should be able to accomplish all your tasks before noon.
This created a habit that I have carried with me most of my life and has also lead to high expectations for myself and others. The mentality has been, make a to do list and finish it by noon or you are slacking.
So many times I have rushed to finish by the dreaded noon whistle and either felt relief as if I had just finished a major race or felt discouragement for not completing my unrealistic goals.
Unfortunately at times, my quiet time with God was on the list and became a chore rather than the gift it really is. As the clock was ticking I would hurriedly rush to read the daily devotional and bible verses just so I could mentally check it off my list while missing the whole purpose of time with God.
God’s message to me today: Master your time
“Time can be a tyrant ticking away relentlessly at your mind. Don’t rush into My Presence with a time consciousness gnawing at your mind.”
God knows my schedule better than I do. He knows what lies ahead in my day and when I start the stop watch on our time together I am allowing time to master me instead of me mastering my time.
Entering into my quiet time with God with the mindset of thankfulness and an open heart, praying that I will receive the message He has for me, will free me to spend as much time as needed with Him.
Some days it may be ten minutes and other days a couple of hours. Either way when I meet God on His time, He always makes sure the rest of my day falls perfectly into place even if it is after noon.
My Prayer
Father, thank you for our time together. I pray that I will throw away the stop watch and focus completely on what You have for me. Open Your word to my heart. Give me understanding and help me to enjoy every moment of Your Presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
Psalm 95:2
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
