Relationships
After a busy work week we headed out of town to attend my nephews wedding. It was the first time my granddaughters had spent the night in a hotel and they were so excited. I told them that we had a secret door between our rooms and they were very surprised to see grandpa on the other side of the door when they knocked.
We had some fun girl time as we put on our dancing dresses and prepared to celebrate. Throughout the evening we visited and reconnected with family while dining and dancing. It was a very enjoyable event.
Bright and early the next morning it was a race to drive home and then to an appointment to pick up our new puppy, Roscoe. We have been waiting for almost four months for this little guy and the day had finally arrived.
The rest of the day was spent introducing Missy to her new roommate. It was so fun watching them interact with each other. Missy, our twelve year old miniature pincher, wanted nothing to do with the young energetic beagle. Roscoe however, is fascinated with Missy and follows her everywhere, constantly rear-ending her when she stops walking because he is following so closely.
As I reminisce about the weekend, it’s interesting to see all the different relationships. Family, friends, new acquaintances and new pets. Some we see daily and some not for years. The joy of seeing them face to face, hugging and laughing is just how I think God intended them to be.
The sore and tired feet were worth every moment of dancing with my granddaughters and seeing them twirl, laugh and smile. The drive and hotel costs were nothing compared to the hugs with my brothers and their families. The relationships are worth the time and effort involved.
The definition of relationship is a connection. Sometimes it’s difficult to stay connected, but the join of reunion is exiting. In all the busyness and travel this weekend I wasn’t as connected with God as I would like to be and I miss Him. I’m thankful for the time with family this weekend, but I’m also looking forward to my morning routine again.
Jesus often retreated to a quiet place to spend time with God; time to connect and be filled. It’s in our relationship with God that we learn to have the right relationship with others. We learn about love and acceptance. Welcoming new people into our lives and learn how to live in relationship with others.
Like Missy, we may be hesitant to accept change, but in time we’ll see that every person that crosses our path is there for a purpose. They bring new life and opportunities. We forgot what having a puppy was like and even though we are quickly learning to puppy proof the house, there are so many sweet moments that cover up the mishaps. Relationships can be messy, but they are well worth the experiences that come along with them.
My Prayer
Father, thank you for time with family and for new additions to the family. I pray that Malcolm and Denisse with have a beautiful life together. Thank you for the relationship that I have with You. I missed my quiet time with You this weekend and look forward to reconnecting with You. Thank you for the joys and messes of a new puppy. It can be frustrating at times, but I’m grateful for the lessons in patience and consistency. You are very creative in the way You teach me. I love you Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
Mark 1:35
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
Philippians 2:5
“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”
