Refocus and Begin Again
Be steeped in the word; encourage one another in it, and let thanksgiving drive you to perserverance. – Colossians 3:16
Last night as I was reading through my journal and reviewing events from last month, I was convicted by the theme of faithfulness. It was the title of October’s Royal Records and sadly, was not my character in my calling. There were very few posts on the website and as I looked further I saw that throughout the year, I have been lacking when it comes to faithfully writing, which is something that God has called me to do.
It was a painful truth to know that I was neglecting my calling for other things. The enemy would love for me to justify my actions by reminding me of my other responsibilities and providing every excuse imaginable, but the truth is, I lacked faithfulness.
After praying for forgiveness and help to do better, God provided me with a devotional that encouraged me to go to God’s Word and remind myself of who God says I am. Soak it in and renew my mind. Don’t give the enemy any territory to heap condemnation on my heart and mind. Refocus and start again.
It was as if God was right there with me reminding me that He has a calling and purpose for me and He hasn’t given up on me even when I am not faithful. He continued by showing me how I could prioritize my daily tasks in a way that helps me see His provision to accomplish each and every one of them.
Today’s verse is a guideline for all believers. First, we need to be steeped (covered, drenched, soaked) in God’s Word. This will give us the right mindset for the whole day and leads right into step two, of encouraging others. Filling up on God’s Word allows us to pour out, from our filled souls, into the lives of others. Step three is living with a grateful heart because of the guidance and promises found in God’s Word. And with these steps in place we will be able to persevere in all that God has called us to do.
