Redeem the Time
Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. – Colossians 4:5
I read another translation of today’s verse that really touched my heart. It read, “walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time.” A few weeks ago I met a woman who recently moved to this area. Shortly after settling in she was diagnosed with cancer and began chemotherapy treatments. Just as she was finishing her treatments, and before she was to begin several weeks of radiation, her husband unexpectedly died from a heart attack.
She contacted me about the Grief Share program and by God’s Divine intervention, needed a ride because night driving was a challenge for her. This gave us several opportunities to talk and she had many questions about the Christian faith.
In my own studies I was reading the book of Revelation and many times the study notes mentioned that the time is drawing near and only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will be saved. This created an urgency in my heart to share the message of salvation with my new friend. You see, she decided to move near family as soon as possible and put her home on the market to be sold. The clock is ticking on how much longer she will be in this area.
My message from God was very clear, “Redeem the time.” I need to make the most of every minute I’m blessed with to speak with her, answer her questions and love on her. It’s the calling and purpose that every beliver has been given and as we watch the world events falling into place, it’s a reminder that the Lord’s return is near and we need to be sharing the hope we have in Christ by making the most of every opportunity we are given. The clock is ticking for all unbelievers and time is precious.
Lord, please give us a heart for the lost and help us to faithfullly share the grace we have received as we following the leading of Your heart, desiring that non should perish. I pray that we will redeem the time we have to serve You and others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
