Live Boldly

Prepared

We had just spent a fun week on an island, in the sunshine and it was time to come home. The temperature was 70 degrees at 10:00 am in the morning when our shuttle arrived to take us to the pier.

I knew if I wore the sweatshirt I had packed for the flight home I would be extremely warm and uncomfortable in no time so I wore a tank top and capri pants. In an act of capturing every last possible moment of the vacation mindset I opted for flip flops instead of sneakers. I rationalized that they would be easier through airport security and it was just nice wearing the again. Our friends must have felt the same because they were dressed in shorts and flip flops too.

Once we arrived at the airport the air conditioning was in full force and it was cold. The security screening did not require us to take off our shoes and we were informed that Denver was in the middle of a blizzard and our flight might be rerouted.

Luckily I had put my sweatshirt in my carry-on and was able to access it for the flight home. By the time we arrived in Denver the weather had caused our connecting flight to be cancelled and we would have to spend the night in Denver.

We looked like crazy people as we ran to meet the hotel shuttle in blowing and drifting snow wearing shorts and flip flops while other travelers had their parkas and snow boots. It was a very cold experience that we were not properly prepared for.

Yesterday my granddaughters were visiting and we were giving them the souvenirs that we brought them from our trip. I had also found them activity books that shared the story of Easter. Kyrie, the oldest quickly read through the book and was excited to put the stickers in place and share the story with me. She then told me that she has been having nightmares that scare her and she has a hard time going back to sleep afterwards.

As the family was getting ready to go home I told her that I would pray for her and that Jesus would help her. She quickly said, “Pray for me right now,” and she sat on my lap and closed her eyes. Then we prayed.

She was going home prepared.

That was such a special moment for me because it was the first time that she has asked for prayer and I know that she knew it would help. I know God is working in her life and I pray that she will come to know Him as her personal Lord and Savior.

It was a beautiful reminder of Jesus saying, “let the little children come to me, and do not hider them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

My prayer

Father, thank you for both of my granddaughters. I pray they will choose you and know that You are Lord. Guard their minds and hearts from the enemy that would deter them from You. Help their faith grow and thank you for the reminder of being truly prepared. You are what we need. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

1 Peter 3:15

“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
