Potential
I was walking down the street the other day and I came across a shop that had several beautiful plants in the window. As I looked at them I notice two specific plants and was amazed by their size. One was a Christmas cactus and the pot that it was in was as big around as my arms when I make them into a circle and it’s shoots hung over the pot with bright red flowers on the ends. The other one was a succulent type of plant and the branches on it were about 6 inches in diameter and it reached from floor to ceiling. The reason these two plants caught my attention was that I have one of each at home in much smaller versions.
As I looked at my little plants I was excited about the potential that they both possess given the proper care. They will need time, patience, water, pruning and a good growing environment. It made me excited about what lies ahead for them.
I imagine that God feels the same way about us. He knows and sees our potential. He knows what is possible given the right circumstances. It will take time, patience, pruning and care, but eventually we have the potential to bear fruit for God.
As we study the story of Jocebed this month we will see that she used every opportunity before her to obey and honor God with her life. Her trials refined her and she grew to be a woman of faith and courage. We can look at the example of her life and see what God can and will do with the potential He has given us.
Be Intentional about using your God given potential.
Praises & Prayers
Father, thank you for the potential You have given us and that You see in us. Help us to develop that potential into Godly character that will lead others to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Messages from His Word
And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. ~ Romans 12:2 AMP
