Pick and Choose
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” – Joshua 24:15
Last night I had one of those moments of understanding where you see something in someone else’s life, then realize it applies to you too. My husband and I have been praying for God’s leading for a future home and we completely trust His timing and His leading in this area of our lives.
As we were talking we discussed other things that have been on our hearts such as contacting old friends and having personal conversations with others that are outside our comfort zones. It was easy for me to see that, in this situation, my husband was picking and choosing what parts of God’s leading he wanted to follow.
The next morning I came face to face with the reality that I was doing the same thing with other issues that I was avoiding and, at times, disregarding altogether.
The Holy Spirit convicted me of picking and choosing which parts of God’s leading I will follow. Either I follow Him fully and passionately or I don’t. He didn’t call me to follow Him when it was convenient or easy, He simply said, “follow me.”
Lord, please forgive my shallow prayers that ask for Your will and leading, but only in the areas that I want. Help me to fully and passionately follow You whenever and wherever You lead.
