Personality Plus

A friend of mine lent me a book about personalities. It starts with a short test to see which type you are and then explains the strengths and weaknesses of each category. Later it provides suggestions on how to overcome your weaknesses and the best way to communicate with other personalities.

After taking the test I was not really surprised to find out that I am what the author calls a Perfect Melancholy. As I read the strengths and weaknesses section I often laughed at how spot on they were.

A Perfect Melancholy has to have everything in order and cannot rest until they are. I had just finished organizing all the closets in my house and decided that I would start reading the book as soon as all my regular chores were done.

While this personality is very good with details, it also lacks joy and spontaneity because it is always over thinking what lies ahead and is already making a plan for what might happen.

My morning devotional was a perfect follow up to what I read yesterday.

“Relax, My Child. I’m in control. You waste a lot of time and energy trying to figure out things before their time has come. Remember that you are My beloved. I am at your side, and I want what is best for you.”

“I have good plans for you. As you look ahead into the unknown future, relax in the knowledge of who you are – the one I love. Cling to My hand, and go forward with confidence. While you and I walk together along the path of life, your trust in Me will fill your heart with Joy and your mind with Peace.”

“Instead of seeking perfection in the fallen world, pour your energy into seeking the Perfect One. I am much less interested in right circumstances than in right responses to whatever comes your way.”

That last statement lifted a weight off of me. In this year of transition I want to enjoy the journey. Take time to see the sights along the way and remember that God has invited me on this adventure for a purpose.

He created my personality and will provide many opportunities to refine it and build my character. Open my eyes to see where I need to adjust to Your will Lord.

My Prayer

Father, thank you for clean closets and an organized home, but thank you too for showing me that I need to have balance in my life. You Lord, provide that balance and I pray that I will follow You. I pray that my first response will be to seek You and trust in Your timing. Help me to rest in Your presence and follow Your leading. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,
    with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
