Peacemaker
A peacemaker, like Abigail, is a person who helps others solve a conflict and reach a peaceful solution. She wanted David and his men to know she was grateful they had helped her husband and that she had become aware of the offence that they had received from him. She asked David to forgive Nabal’s arrogance and accept the gifts of food and wine that she had brought with her.
Abigail not only reasoned with David, but she could empathize with him. She lived with her surly husband and was around his mean disposition every day. There must have been plenty of opportunities for her to be the peacemaker in her household.
Abigail helped David see how important it was for him to stop his vengeful plan. She agreed that Nabal had done wrong, but it would also be wrong for David to do harm in return. Later, when David became king, he would be a better king and a better man because he had not taken revenge on Nabal. Thankfully David listened to Abigail’s advice.
The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:9, “You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.” (MSG)
When you know you’re God’s child and that God loves you, you’re at peace. You can trust God to take care of you and of everyone else. You’re confident that God has enough love and good for everyone. Being a peacemaker is sharing your peace.
Be Intentional about being a peacemaker.
