Divine Encounters

Never give up

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

While I was on my God reatreat I was sitting on the patio writing when I heard a large splash in the river. I turned to look towards the sound and saw a young eagle floating in the water. At first I thought it was injured because it was not flying away. After a couple of minutes it attempted to fly but it was as if a heavy weight was holding it back and pulling it under.

It continued to float downstream and every few seconds it would try to fly which was actually helping it get closer to the riverbank. Finally, it reach a shallow part and it started to emerge from the river. To my surprise, it had a large fish in its talons.

The fish was so big it was preventing the young eagle from lifting off in flight, but it was determined not to let go of its incredible catch. Once on shore it began to eat the fish it had worked so hard to keep.

What seemed to be drowning the eagle was actually making it stronger. The strength to fly may not have been there, but the determination to hold on and keep trying eventually paid off.

It reminded me of how often our daily tasks can feel overwhelming. Sometimes they have to be accomplished in a different than usual way, but if we persevere and keep trying, eventually we will accomplish what we set out to do. We need to remember that the end result is worth the effort, strength and dedication it takes to obtain it.

It was a perfect visual lesson for me at the exact moment I needed to see it. I was getting tired and weary of my tasks at hand, but seeing that young eagle keep trying, no doubt feeling exhausted too, gave me not only a Divine Encounter but renewed motivation to never give up.

Thank you Lord for your incredible life lessons and the creative way You teach them.
