Live Boldly

My Rescuing Knight

I love you, God—
    you make me strong.
God is bedrock under my feet,
the castle in which I live,
    my rescuing knight.

Psalm 18:1 – MSG

Today’s verse made my heart smile the moment I read it. I instantly had a visual picture of a Daughter of The King, in a castle, in the presence of the King who had rescued her and kept her safe.

This Psalm was written by King David, the servant of the Lord. He sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies. The NIV versions reads:

I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

The Life Application Study Bible explains this passage in that God’s protection of His people is limitless and can take many forms. God is like:

  1. A Rock – an immovable foundation that can’t be shaken
  2. A Fortress – or place of safety where the enemy can’t follow
  3. A Shield – that comes between us and harm
  4. A Horn of Salvation – because God has the strength and power to save
  5. A Stronghold – high above our enemies

Which of these speaks the loudest to your current circumstances? Isn’t is wonderful to know that as Daughters of The King, we have been given each one of them! Like David, I have experienced each characteristic of God, many times and I want to not only sing His praises, but shout it from the roof top that My God Reigns!!

Thank you Lord for your ever-present help and peace. I’m so honored to be called Yours and I thank you for loving me, rescuing me and making a safe place for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
