My Daily Bread
When Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray, He responded with what is now called the Lord’s Prayer, found in Matthew 6:9-13. He also declared, “I AM the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)
In the Old Testament God provided manna for the children of Israel one day at a time. Each day as they trusted in God’s provision, they would gather what was required and if they gathered more than needed, it would rot.
Every day we have the opportunity to see our tasks, our to-do lists, our relationships and our schedules as daily bread from God. Whatever the day brings we can know with assurance that He has already provided all that we will need to see it through.
God’s provision comes in both material and spiritual ways. Perhaps you need actual food, He will provide. Maybe you need patience and grace, He will provide. God is fully aware of everything that will take place today and has already provided all that will be needed.
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
