Music from your heart
Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. – Ephesians 5:19-20
On Sunday a young woman shared a short story about her experiences over the week that taught her a lesson in gratuitude. She had been camping with friends and been eaten by mosquitos. Her husband’s new iphone had been lost in the lake and she was unable to sleep due to all the itching.
She began to rehearse her favorite bible verse of Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Her mind rested on giving thanks and she began to recite all the things she was thankful for on her camping trip. As she did she began to relax and finally fell into a peaceful sleep. The following morning a nearby camper stopped by to ask if the phone that washed ashore overnight was theirs. It was and after some time in a bowl of rice, it worked perfectly.
It’s so easy to think of all the things that might be going wrong in our lives, but the moment that we decide to focus on the many things we have to be thankful for our whole outlook changes. Gratitude to God is just like making music from our hearts. It’s sincere and it fills our whole soul with unexplainable joy and peace.
What kind of song is your heart singing today?
