Mighty and Magnificent

When I gaze to the skies and meditate on Your creation— on the moon, stars, and all You have made, I can’t help but wonder why You care about mortals— sons and daughters of men— specks of dust floating about the cosmos. But You placed the son of man just beneath God and honored him like royalty, crowning him with glory and honor. – Psalm 8:3-5 (Voice)

On one of my last nights at our summer retreat I had the priviledge of being awakened by God to take in the scene of the endless starry sky that displayed His mighty and magnificent creation. Thousands of stars painted the sky as the bright full moon shone over the slowly moving river beneath. I stared in a state of awe and wonder at His creation and was humbled at His invitation to sit and enjoy it with Him.

This incredible moment was followed by a perfectly timed devotional that read, “If you truly believe that God has the power to create and sustain the universe, then absolutely nothing in your life is beyond His power to mend, heal or restore. Nothing is impossible for our Creator God!”

The stars are little reminders that He is every present, all powerful and always watching over us. Many times since I have looked up in the sky in the middle of a sleepless night and been comforted when I’ve seen what I now call -my star. I’ve seen my star while flying thousands of feet in the air and was given peace that He was with me, and I look for it each night before I go to bed and cannot help but wonder at how much He cares for me, while ending my day knowing that He is watching over me.
