Memory Verses
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119 :11
For several years I’ve had a small book with memory verses on each page that I would review while walking on the treadmill. I had read that it helps you memorize things better if you are doing a common task while reading whatever it is you want to memorize and have found it to be true.
Since the weather has been nicer I have taken to outdoor walks and runs which means I’m paying more attention to my surroundings and have not taken my memory book with me for quite some time. But today since the weather was unfavorable for outdoor activities, I decided to stay inside and read through the book in my quiet time. It was exciting to see how many verses I still remembered, but even more importantly, I was remembering the reasons that I put each one in my book.
As I study the Bible I add verses to my notebook that have special meaning to me. It could be a lesson that God is teaching me, a promise, a word of encouragement, a prayer for a loved one, or a Gospel truth that I want to know and be able to speak at a moment’s notice.
It turned out to be such an emotional time with God today. I was reminded how easily I sin and also about the grace and forgiveness that is always available from God. I cried a bit when I read my verses about Brock which reminded me that there’s nothing better than being with Jesus. My passion for my calling was renewed when I read that God awakens me each morning to teach me so that I can share an encouraging word with those who are hurting.
I felt like my passion was reignited and joy filled my heart reading about all the promises of God that have been fulfilled in my life and the many others that will take place in His perfect timing.
His Word is powerful. His Word is Truth. His Word is life giving. His Word is encouraging. His Word is in me. His Word is everything to me. Lord, help me to fill my heart, mind and soul with Your Word. Thank you for it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
