Live Boldly

Lord, Will You Fight This Battle For Me?

As Believers we are painfully aware that we’re involved in a spiritual battle for our souls. In our own efforts we are unevenly matched with an enemy that uses his powers in the most evil ways possible. He delights when we stumble and fall. He welcomes us with open arms when we backslide. He lies because he is the father of lies. His only focus is to render us ineffective for God.

That’s why it’s necessary for us as believers to allow the Lord to take control of our personal battles; recognizing that it is the only way we can be assured of victory. We don’t have to fight this enemy alone. The Lord will fight for us.

The biggest challenge we face is letting God fight the battle. We tend to hold onto the challenge because of guilt, shame, pride or simply not understanding the power of God in our lives. Over and over in the bible we read about people who faced physical and spiritual battles that ended in victory because they chose to give the battle to the Lord.

In the Old Testament, King Hezekiah was facing a large Assyrian army that camped outside the city. He had received a letter from the leader of that army threatening him and defying the power of Israel’s God. After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it, he went up to the Lord’s Temple and spread it out before the Lord. In his prayer he acknowledge the Lord’s sovereignty and power and asked the Lord to rescue them. He asked the Lord to fight the battle for them.

The Lord responded through the prophet Isaiah that He had heard Hezekiah’s prayer and He would deliver Israel. He offered not only prophetic proof of what He intended to do, but that very night the angel of the Lord went out to the Assyrian camp and killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. When the surviving Assyrians woke up the next morning, they found corpses everywhere. Then King Sennacherib of Assyria broke camp and returned to his own land. He went home to his capital of Nineveh and stayed there.

I doubt many of us have had over 185,000 enemy soldiers waiting outside our front doors to destroy us, but it can sure feel that way when the enemy is plaguing us with wrong thoughts, reminding us of our pasts, whispering lies, weighing us down with guilt and condemnation, all while denying the power of God in our lives.

Like Hezekiah, we need to lay our battles before the Lord and ask Him to fight for us, trusting in His sovereignty as Lord of our lives. As we wait for the deliverance of the Lord we can speak His Words of truth over our situations and receive His peace that transcends understanding.

Be Intentional about laying your battles before the Lord. He will fight for you!

Praises & Prayers

Father, thank you for coming to our rescue the moment we call Your name. Help us to surrender control to you and listen to Your voice of truth. Block out the lies of the enemy and help us to keep our focus fully on You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
