Lord Reign In Me
There has been quite a bit of rain this last week. So much that we decided not to go away for the weekend. Although we didn’t get away, the rain made for several other opportunities that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.
Not only does it smell great, but everything is getting so green, the trees are filling out and there are flowers and plants blooming everywhere; it’s a beautiful sight.
Because we were home, I ran errands that needed to be done and it felt great to take my time and slow down the pace even at home. I was able to have a longer quiet time and not feel like I was on a timer which was wonderful.
One day I even sat out on the deck and just listened to the rain. It has such a calming effect and it makes its own symphony of sound as it lands on rooftops, streets and in the trees.
The best part of the staying in town because of rain was that I was able to attend church and to my surprise there were four people being baptized! How awesome is that! They were experiencing a different type of rain; they were experiencing Christ reigning in their lives.
That type of reign also has many beautiful effects. When Christ reigns in your life it’s new and washed clean. The old is gone and the new has come. You begin to grow in ways you never expected.
Sometimes the new life can feel like a down pour and at other times like a slight drizzle. But either way when the rain is over and the sun is out, you usually see the rainbow of promise.
Several times this week I have heard people comment on how tired they are of all the rain because it keeps them from doing everything they want to do. I think that some people feel the same way about God. They get tired of His reign because they want to do their own thing.
But the rain is good and serves a beautiful purpose just like God’s reign in our lives is good and serves a purpose. I remember singing a song in church several years ago about asking God to reign in our lives, it’s called “Lord Reign In Me,” and the lyrics are:
Over all the earth you reign on high
Every mountain stream, every sunset sky
But my one request, Lord my only aim
Is that you’d reign in me again
Lord reign in me, reign in your power
Over all my dreams, in my darkest hour
You are the Lord of all I am
So won’t you reign in me again
Over every thought, over every word
May my life reflect the beauty of my Lord
Cause you mean more to me than any earthly thing
So won’t you reign in me again
I listened to this song today as it was raining outside and it made the rain even better. To know that I can invite the God of the Universe to reign over my life and in me is simply incredible. Just as those people who were baptized on Sunday invited Him to be the Lord of their lives, we can invite Him in to be Lord of all we are. Lord, please reign in me.
My Prayer
Father, thank you for all the rain that not only has made things so green and beautiful, but it gave me the opportunity to witness four people give their lives to You, what a gift. Their public display of their choice reminded me that I make that choice everyday whether You are the Lord of my life or not. You do mean more to me than anything on this earth and I pray that You will reign in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
Psalm 97:1
“The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice.”
Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,who loved me and gave himself for me.”
