Restore My Soul – 40 Days of Intimacy with God
When you hear 40 days in the bible you usually think of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness and Moses waiting and experiencing God on Mt Sinai. Both Jesus and Moses experienced testing and time alone with God which resulted in both of them being prepared to step out into their callings. When I studied the life of the prophet Elijah I came to the scene where he was completely exhausted. He had ran in fear for his life from Jezebel, felt completely alone in his stand for God and prayed, “I have had enough, Lord,” asking that he might die. It was at this point that he too had…

Take A Rest
I just finished reading “Take the Day Off” by Robert Morris. When I first saw the book in Hobby Lobby about two months ago I was in the middle of a job transition. In this transition I was closing one office and opening another while trying to reassure clients that they would be taken care of both now and in the future. I felt buried in the mountain of work that needed to be done and the timeline filled with precise details that demanded attention. In addition I was constantly having to change things over and over again, like everyone else, due to Covid 19. It was only by the…

Sounds of Freedom
On the 4th of July we were amazed at the amount of fireworks that were displayed throughout our city given that the usual large sponsored displays were cancelled because of Covid 19. We sat on the front porch and watched for several hours at all the bright explosions displayed across the valley and the reservoir. The sounds echoed and added to the excitement and thrill of what we were watching. Often I would think of the words in the Star Spangle Banner. the rockets red glare the bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag was still there While thinking of these words I would close…

The Fruit of Faith
A few days ago my mind was whirling with all the tasks at hand and I felt completely overwhelmed with the deadlines that were fast approaching. I’ve had to make several checklists to make sure that I don’t miss an important detail as I close one business and open up another. I know without a doubt that I could not do this on my own. In fact there are several times throughout the day that have to take a moment and sit in amazement at the way God is leading me through and giving me the strength I need to finish well and at the same time to begin again.…

A Strange Request Full of Promise
In the story that I shared yesterday about the widow and Elijah I noticed that their meeting began with what seemed like an unusual request. The woman was about to prepare her last meal before she and her son would die due to the famine in the land. When she met Elijah he asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.” After she explained that she had barely enough to make a small meal her and her son, Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid.…

The Barrel and the Jug
Have you ever felt like you have come to the end of your resources and you begin to loose hope? Has your money, health, friends, patience, etc., all been depleted leaving you with doubts about the future? Well you’re not alone and you can take comfort in a story about a women in the bible that God intended for us to hear in times just like this. The story takes place in 1 Kings 7: 7-16. There was a severe drought in the land and a widow in the town of Zarephath was out gathering sticks for a fire so she could cook the last meal for her and her…

Burn the Ships
Good Morning and Happy Wednesday! I want to share something that God has been teaching me and hopefully it may help encourage you as well. A few weeks ago on my way to work I was listening to the radio and the new song by King and Country called Burn the Ships was playing. As I listened to the words I began to wonder why you would burn what seemed to be a perfectly good ship. After doing a little research I discovered that some of the early explorers upon arriving in a new land would order their ships to be burned. This was because the sailors would rather stay…

Lessons In the Waiting: Freedom
When you think of Spring 2020 words like pandemic, quarantine, Covid 19 and toilet paper hoarding might come to mind. Yet through all the chaos and uncertainty there are many lessons to be learned in the waiting. This time is a gift from our loving God. In the last few months we have experienced some of our freedoms being taken away. We haven’t been able to go where we want, when we want too and we have had restrictions placed on us in ways that we have never experienced before. At first, some seemed like nice options and after time have turned out to be less enjoyable than expected. I…

Lessons In the Waiting: Double Blessings
When you think of Spring 2020 words like pandemic, quarantine, Covid 19 and toilet paper hoarding might come to mind. Yet through all the chaos and uncertainty there are many lessons to be learned in the waiting. This time is a gift from our loving God. I just finished reading a book called Double Blessing by Mark Batterson. It was about the ripple effect that occurs when we receive a blessing and pay it forward by blessing someone else. You never know when that blessing is going to be an answered prayer or miracle for someone else. The book suggested that we take inventory of our blessings so that we…

Lessons In the Waiting: Essential
When you think of Spring 2020 words like pandemic, quarantine, Covid 19 and toilet paper hoarding might come to mind. Yet through all the chaos and uncertainty there are many lessons to be learned in the waiting. This time is a gift from our loving God. Another word that we’ve all heard several times through this quarantine experience is “Essential.” While I understand the meaning and purpose behind its use in this situation, I’ve also seen how it has created division and been hurtful to many. Who determines who’s essential and who’s not? The truth is that everyone is Essential and needed. We all have a purpose or we wouldn’t…
