A Thorn
Believe it or not we can all relate to Hannah’s childless situation. Not only did she fervently pray for an answer to her prayers, but for years the answer seemed to be a “no” from God. Perhaps she even prayed for relief from the constant torment and judgment that Peninnah piled on her with each new child that was born. The apostle Paul also prayed repeatedly for the thorn in his side to be removed. The Lord’s response was that His Grace Was Sufficient. Many have speculated about what his thorn was, but regardless, it was chronic, debilitating and felt life altering enough to bring him to his knees. I…

Year After Year
Part of God’s plan for Hannah involved postponing her years of childbearing. While Peninnah looked at Hannah’s outward circumstances, God was moving ahead with His plan. Year after year, Elkanah, along with Hannah, Peninnah and all her sons and daughters, went up to a town called Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty. Each year Peninnah would provoke Hannah until she wept and would not eat. The bible is not specific on exactly how many years of taunting took place, but given that Peninnah had sons and daughters, there must have been several and it must have felt like an eternity to Hannah. Each of us are tried…

Longings
One thing we can be certain of, God understands the longings that we have – so much that He provided us with quite a few examples of women throughout the bible who dealt with their own longings. We should take to heart that He has shown His awareness and His concern by giving us these women and their stories to encourage us and remind us that He sees us. He knows our desires and He will answer our longings in His perfect will and way. Hannah’s story begins with the mention of her husband, Elkanah and his second wife Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none. With just one…

Meet: Hannah
For the month of March we will discover some of the many lessons that can be learned from studying the life of Hannah. Overview – Prayerful Perseverance Hannah was a wife to a man named Elkanah who deeply loved her. Unfortunately she was barren and he took a second wife who was able to give him several children. This however did not diminish his love for her, but it did create opportunities for Peninnah, the second wife, to torment Hannah because of her situation. Peninnah’s competitiveness and derision caused Hannah deep anguish, which Hannah took to God in prayer. On one occasion while at the tabernacle she was praying and…

Perfect Timing
My sister invited me to lunch last week and as I waited for her to arrive I was reminded of how perfect God’s timing is. I had hoped to have the Royal Records books by the first of the year, however due to holiday and design delays it finally arrived at my home on February 8th, my birthday. What a wonderful gift! But the wonder didn’t stop there. When my sister arrived three days later for our lunch date I gave her a copy of the book which instantly brought her to tears. Later I discovered that she had just been asking herself if God was even there and if…

A Life of Purpose
We are all in our individual places of influence by God’s design and the most effective way to reach our family and friends is by a life changed by Christ. It speaks more loudly and clearly than anything else. People will argue about doctrine and personal beliefs, but when they see the transformation that a life surrendered to God reveals, they loose their footing. There is no denying the change that takes place in the life of a believer. The story of Esther taught us that we are here at this exact time and place for God’s Divine purpose. He will move mountains and intervene at the exact moment necessary…

True Beauty
Esther’s story began with the mention of her outward beauty. But through the events of her life you can see that God had refined her inner beauty to far outshine any treatment that the world offered. It was what was underneath the surface that fulfilled her destiny – the hidden person inside. It wasn’t the years worth of beauty treatments that helped Esther, but rather her inner character that willingly submitted to God’s will for her life. She dealt with many difficult circumstances that through hind sight, aided in her refining for the moment that she would boldly risk her life for others. Developing Godly character through trials and hardships…

Purim
So the king and Haman went to Queen Esther’s banquet and as they were drinking wine on the second day, the king again asked, “What is your petition? What is your request? Esther answered, “Grant me my life – this is my petition and spare my people – this is my request.” King Xerxes asked Queen Esther, “Who is he? Where is he – the man who dares to do such a thing?” Esther said, “An adversary and enemy! This vile Haman!” Haman’s hatred and evil plotting turned against him when the king discovered his true intentions. He was impaled that very day on the same pole he had set…

Pride Vs. Humility
Proverbs 16:18 TPT Your boast becomes a prophecy of a future failure. The higher you lift up yourself in pride, the harder you’ll fall in disgrace. An early morning meeting began with King Xerxes asking Haman, “What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?” Now Haman thought to himself, “Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?” So he answered the king, “For the man the king delights to honor, have them bring a royal robe the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with the royal crest placed on his head. Then let the robe and horse be entrusted to…

Behind the Scenes
We’ve all experienced sleepless nights and tried several options to find a remedy. King Xerxes was no exception. Unable to sleep, the king decided to review the history of his reign, and his servants read to him about Mordecai’s good deed which had happened four years earlier and had went unrewarded. That good deed was exposing a plot to assassinate the king which resulted in saving the king’s life. Immediately the king sought to remedy the situation by rewarding Mordecai. At Haman’s home he was also having a restless night. In his anger concerning Mordecai he was having a 75 foot pole erected and planned to ask the king the…
